PostSubject: WITCH'S COTTAGE (Autumn 2011)   WITCH'S COTTAGE (Autumn 2011) EmptySun Sep 18, 2011 6:21 pm

WITCH'S COTTAGE
Warm Baked Goods, Dried Herbs, Sweet Annie, Soft Woods, Fragrant Hearth Smoke

Not to be used by women who are pregnant or nursing or those prone to hayfever (contains Chamomile EO)

Offered in Autumn 2011 Collection in Perfume and Whipped Soap only.

Description: Upon entering the Witch's Cottage you are greeted with fresh and dried herbs, chamomile flowers, rosemary sprigs, Sweet Annie, Davana and a hint of crisp apples. A warm undercurrent of luscious baked goods, sweet buns and candied pralines emerges and is followed by mild fragrant woods and sweet hearth smoke. Witch's Cottage fragrance is a true journey with loads of atmosphere.

On initial application the herbs emerge with the sweet baked goods hovering just below. The apple and herbal top notes (namely the chamomile and Sweet Annie) retreat within a few minutes to make way for brown sugar and caramel heavy baked goods. The sweet note is a collection of a variety of different sugary treats but the overall scent is not cloying - rather a vague, well blended impression of baked goods that adds a rich warmth to the blend.

Further journeying into the cottage will take you to the warmest, most fragrant and exotic soft woods touched by a wisp of divine incense and sweet hearth smoke. The long term dry down is that of the woods and sweet smoke and is a very warm, comforting and alluring fragrance. A definite morpher that is also very interesting, unique and complex scent. It wears close to the skin and encourages snuggling into the couch in front of a blazing fire with a great book and a mug of hot cider!

(reposted from my SS Fall contest blog)

Another complete surprise! Whenever I see the words "baked" or "sweet", I tend to run away from the scent. I would much rather be eating delicious pastries and bread rather than smelling like them. So, I was hesitant with this one, but I always love how Angela uses her smoke notes so wonderfully.

Once again, she proved me wrong! When I first put this scent on, yes, I could smell the sweet baked goods note... BUT along with that were some beauuuuuuuuuuuutiful herbal notes. Not herbally as in overpowering oregano.. but herbal as in a soft combination of herbs. I kept smelling my wrists recognizing a very familiar scent in the background.. one I instantly said to myself "oh, I LOVE this... what is it?". I actually had to go to the computer to read Angela's scent notes to see what it was. It was the Sweet Annie!

I have been a LONG time lover of Sweet Annie which always reminds me of the fall. So many primitive shops I have been in along with fall festivals would have this dried herb made into swags or wreaths. The first time I smelled it, I fell in love and have identified the fall season with this scent. We always have a wreath or a swag that has lots of it hanging somewhere in our house.

So, the combination of the baked goods along with the herbs, a bit of apple and the lovely smoke notes make this a perfect blend. It's not too sweet, foody, herbally or smoky. It's warm, comforting and really invokes the fall season for me. Just lovely!!

My first reaction was yuk, butter and sugar!. Lots of cacao and sheabutter. But after a while I started smelling herbs, spices, smoke and woods. It is too sweet and buttery for me. It makes my stomach a bit quiesy. But I never liked the smell of cacoabutter. It smells like salty caramel boiling on an open fire. Heavy and thick. However I do like the dry down smell of it. The incense and smoke come far more to the foreground.
I cannot make my mind up about this one. This is one of those journeys, it keeps changing. Not such a fan of the first steps in, but the dry down is quite delicious.

PostSubject: Re: WITCH'S COTTAGE (Autumn 2011)   WITCH'S COTTAGE (Autumn 2011) EmptyWed Sep 28, 2011 10:03 pm

It was a cold, windy ol' day yesterday. As the thunder rolled and the rain poured down beyond my window, I sat on my couch warm and comforted by the scent of Witch's Cottage. While I sat, my mind began to wander. I wandered to a cottage. But not just any ordinary cottage; this particular cottage was home to a Witch.

While the word "Witch" probably springs a whole array of different opinions, most rather negative, this Witch was the kind who would invite you into her home openly (and not to stuff you into the oven). She would meet you at her garden gate, where the intoxicating aroma of whatever baking she was doing for the day would slowly waft out to greet you. As you entered her domain, the dried herbs hanging all around her cottage would mingle with the smells of her baking and freshly churned butter, and you find that your stomach may begin to rumble. She seats you near the hearth and offers you tea; Chamomile. As you sit, the soft woods of the cottage begin to enter your consciousness, and you get a slight whiff of incense, probably from the next room...

Witch's Cottage is an amazing experience. The combination of all the notes makes for an incredibly comforting fall scent.

I love this scent <3. It's so evocative and perfect for fall... I smell this and can imagine wandering in the woods and coming to a cottage where the smell of baked goods are wafting out through the windows. I was worried about the herbs in the description, as herbal notes and I usually don't get along, but the herbal part is like a hint of dried herbs and dry garden underneath the foodie/pastry part and crisp apple. Mainly it smells like flour, breakfast pastries cooling on a windowsill, and a hint of apple and foodie, dry, slightly spicy smokiness. I don't find the scent to be super sweet or buttery at all, more of a subtle sweetness and dry flour for the foodie parts. It's excellent, and I like it as a perfume and as a room scent. It makes me want to go and bake some fall treats...

A very nice autumn scent - love the dried herbs and spices. It is NOT overly-foody (thankfully) which makes it a delight to wear.

I'm looking forward to wearing this scent more and more over the next few weeks as the mood for it sets in. It really defines the term "kitchen witch" to me. It makes me think of herbs and pies and trees and everything else that is amazing! It also warms more in aroma the longer I have it on! Mmmmm...

This is my second favorite of all the fall scents and I find myself reaching for it fairly often. I love that this had some foodie smells but never goes too foodie or overly sweet because a lot of those scents I just can't wear because they go all weird on my skin. This however doesn't because it has those woodsy and herbal notes in the background, grounding it and making it just smell wonderful. It's perfectly balanced and definitely gives you that fall feel with out being overtly obvious about it at the same time.

What a little charmer this fragrance is!

I can't point out the different notes as they come to me, but as I sniff and read Angela's description I can follow every note from apples and baked goods right down to the incense and the woods, each one keeping the others in check so there's no single note that steals the show! It strongly reminds me of the Arizona Ren Fest and all of the wonderful shops that one can encounter as you walk the acreage! I hope my mom likes it as much as I do!

I guess I'm weird because I don't smell the sweetness of this one at all! It's not bad, but it definitely smells more herbal/musky to me. It's actually quite intricate. I do like it, but I am a gourmand/foodie girl to my soul, so this one doesn't excite me as much. But, it is quite pleasant, even unisex? (Just checked the site, and it is on the unisex list!!! Haha)

An hour later...I smell more sweetness; it really is a nice smell.

I bought the soap in this, knowing that it's different from the perfume but hoping it would give me an idea of the scent. When I opened the soap, I fell straight into love with this and turned around and ordered the perfume.

Today, I actually tried the soap, and fell even more in love. In the shower, the chamomile really came through, and the other notes mingled so beautifully. I kept trying to think of ways to describe this, and all I could come up with was: It's sweet, but not sugar sweet--it's more of the sweetness of fresh cut grasses and flowers. It's dry, but not Sirocco dry--it's more of the dryness of a warm and cozy kitchen on a blustery day. It's fresh feeling--the way hay and freshly cut grass are fresh, without having any dominant "I'm Fresh!" notes demanding attention.

In short, this is (in the soap, at least) in my short list of all-time-favorite scents. It's one of those scents that you know you're searching for, but you don't know what it is until you find it, and then you go, "Oh where have you been all of my life?!" This, more than almost any other perfume I've tried in my life, is home and welcome and happiness and me. It feels like Cinderella's lost slipper--and I never knew it was missing until I found it.

I know the perfume is going to be somewhat different, but if it retains *any* of the georgeousness of the soap, I will be thrilled. Just thrilled.

Now that I have the perfume too, I was thinking I should do a review. Very Happy

In short: I love this scent. The perfume doesn't have as much chamomile coming to the top like the soap does, but I still get in the perfume a lot of what I loved in the soap. Today was the first day that I used the soap and perfume together, and I am a perfect haze of Witch's Cottage.

For me, this scent is still (even in perfume) one of those, "Where have you been all of my life?" scents. As Rob noted in Kitchen, this and Kitchen seem to be related (wearing them side by side was fun), but Kitchen is sweeter for me (perhaps because the spices are involved and I get more sugar in Kitchen). This has sweetness to it, but it's more low-key and feels like it's coming from the herbs and sweet annie, although waaaay underneath the praline and sweet buns notes provide a nice touch. The apples don't play up much on my skin, although every now and then I get a faint apple peelish whiff.

This is one of my happiest scents to wear--and has become one of my Holy Grail scents (I have very few of them, but this one is on there). It has a lift to it without being annoyingly cheerful. It has a warmth and heart to it that make me feel comforted. And it the way it wears on my skin makes me feel beautiful.

Beautiful.

Perfume: This reminds me of a more subtle version of Haus Of Gloi's “Hearth” which I absolutely LOVE. I'm talking I could eat that blend. It has a bit more woods smell to it than HoG's “Hearth”. Love, love, love this one.

I adore this scent. It is the PERFECT fall/autumn scent. To me it is a mixture of all of the things I love the most during autumn. Yummy fall baked goods (think pumpkin bread), smoke like a burning bonfire, and dried herbs. It is absolutely lovely.

Sweet, smoky, and earthy......perfection cheers

My first impression of Witch's Cottage is that it's a very cozy fragrance. The weather is still warm and summery here in California, but I imagine this perfume will be even more comforting in the cooler winter months.

The perfume starts off rich with buttery pastries and salted caramel. As it dries, the sweet wood smoke and dried herbs come to the forefront, and the aroma of baked goods drifts to the background. The apples and nutty caramel together create a fragrance of warm cider.

This perfume paints a vivid picture of its namesake. I can picture the small wooden cottage, protected from the outside chill by a glowing fire. Drying herbs hang from the rafters, and apple cider bubbles in a big pot over the flames. Warm pastries and sugared nuts wait to be eaten as a late night treat before curling up in bed. Very few things make me wish for cold weather, but Witch's Cottage is one of them!

This is very similar to Kitchen but strangely enough this is very caramel-ish on me (kitchen seems to be spicier??). My skin amps the sweetness on me and the sillage is quite good. Unfortunately I once wore too much of a perfume with caramel-ey notes similar to this and I got a giant headache so this brings back bad memories Sad. I would still recommend this to others who love foodie scents though!

I love the concept of foody, bakery sort of fragrances, but my crazy skin generally ruins them. Witch's Cottage is one of those blessed exceptions, and I am so thankful for that! The sweet bakery notes and the smokiness linger in the background and on me, the herbal notes are the main players, but they never turn dry or sour, like herbs sometimes do for me. It's just very well balanced and blended. I love it! This and Loggia are probably my top two favorites in the fall line.

This is a scent I didn't think I would like. I was so intrigued by it and kept looking at the description, but I was afraid to buy it. I thought it would be too much of a foodie perfume, and I hate foodie stuff. I finally bit the bullet and ordered a sample. This one's a winner for sure! On initial application, I got a very warm, autumn scent. It remind me of the color orange here. I can smell herb and spice and maybe a little bit of pumpkin and fruit and baking bread. I thought this was so awesome! But no, it got better with time. After an hour, I got more incense and spice, and less autumn. I really love this stage. And yes, it got even better. At the final stage, I still get the incense, but more soft, maybe burning woods in the mix too. I really enjoyed this one. I cannot believe how much it changed, but that was the fun in it too, seeing which stage you are in, and maybe discovering new phases you didn't smell before.

Like zombichick, I put off ordering Witch's Cottage because I was afraid it would be too foody. I finally bought the perfume after reading reviews here, and agree that it is a wonderful scent. The herbal/smoke component of the scent blends perfectly with the baked goods component. And it's one of those scents that is different on different days on me: sometimes more herbal, sometimes more sweet, sometimes more smoky. A lovely perfume - highly recommended for autumn and winter.

All I get from this scent is dried herbs with a batch of day old croissants in the background. Far in the back. Like, on the other side of the cottage. Lasting power was really bad too.

This one is nice!  When I first put it on I smell buttery croissants and herbs and a faint hint of smoke.  As it wears it turns to smoky herbs, with just a hint of baked goods in the background.  The herbs are very much the strongest note in this for me, but I really like it!  Out of all the scents I've tried, I have nothing else like this one.. It's not my favorite, but it's definitely fun to wear from time to time.

This is such an interesting cross between sweet and savory. Synesthetically, it evokes a warm beige color. If this were a Hogwarts house, it would be Hufflepuff. This would also be the scent of Bilbo's Bag End (hobbit hole).
