INQUISITOR
A Dark Resinous Blend of Leather, Labdanum, Beeswax, Frankincense, Benzoin, Palo Santo, Vetiver & Fire

NOT TO BE USED BY WOMEN WHO ARE PREGNANT OR NURSING. BEESWAX ACCORD IN THIS BLEND IS SYNTHETIC (VEGAN).

Inquisitor was reformulated in 2015 and is different than the original.

This is a very sinister amber blend. A heavy, dry, resinous amber blend base with leather, beeswax, benzoin, frankincense, palo santo, smoke and fire. For those who remember the Inquisitor blend from years ago, this one is darker and not quite as sweet. This one opens with a whip of black leather, amber, fire and palo santo. Give it a few minutes as the sting of leather recedes and hot melted beeswax and benzoin emerges and sweetens up the amber. A sweet tendril of woodsmoke curls around the frankincense. The body heat seems to ignite a fizzy effervescence in the perfume as well. The dry down is a sweet, dry, dusty amber with the beeswax and benzoin still present and a bit of smoke. Inquisitor contains nominal amounts of myrrh, vetiver, patchouli, sandalwood, oud and rosewood as supporting notes but the aforementioned listed notes are the key players

Inquisitor EDP and Oil - The initial spray of Inquisitor EDP is almost "perfume-y" to me (that generic floral scent you get from some scents), but that dissipates almost immediately. The oil is slightly heavier on the leather, while the EDP is heavier on the Frank/benzoin/labdanum. Both have a dry, dusty beeswax scent that I find I really like. The vetiver seems stronger in the oil than the EDP and the smoke comes out more in the EDP. As they come to a full dry down there are subtle but discernible differences between the EDP and oil. I find the oil to be heavier on the leather, while the EDP seems to balance it all out more, with a tilt towards the dry and dusty beeswax. Both are beautiful and dark, but I believe I prefer the EDP version of this.

Review for the edp version.
I don't know why, but Inquisitor smells like root beer on me at first. It's sweet, almost spicy, brown, slightly fizzy root beer with hints of woodsmoke. As it dries down, more of the leather and labdanum come forward, and the beeswax is very noticeable, plush, sweet, and sensual.
Root beer, swirling tendrils of woodsmoke, black leather, warm and amber-incensey labdanum, and the smoothest beeswax note ever.
It takes about a half hour for that root beer smell to go away, leaving me with a really good, sexy, ambery beeswax that smells sort of dusty, but in a good way (like an ancient potion). I like this, and it smells amazing on my husband. Very Happy

Inquisitor is glorious! For me it starts off with a sharp, almost camphorous smell followed by heavy resins and leather. It's powerful but has a sweetness lingering in the background.

As it settles, the brighter camphor note dies out and it smells like burning resins. Like, not smoky, on FIRE. They are heated and spicy, but definitely "chewy" and rich. On final drydown this is THE incense blend for me. Out of any perfume I've ever worn, this nails the smell of church incense best. Despite being a heathen now, I used to be an altar girl (Catholic).

When we would use the frank/myrrh incense blend in the thurible (metal censer that gets swung around the altar) it smelled exactly like Inquisitor. A lot of companies get close, or have perfumes that smell like frank/myrrh in different incarnations. But this is thurible incense. The sweet smoke of myrrh, grounded by a bitter frankincense, licking up around your body... a powdery but warm combination that lingers on your clothes. The amber and beeswax also come out on the drydown for a killer smoothness.

Such a beautiful and nostalgic blend. Starts out moody and serious then adds sexiness to the mix. If you're an incense lover, you must try it. I would let this Inquisitor interrogate me any day!

I have both the Inquisitor extrait and the EDP.  Wow, this is impressive.  This scent is well named.  Someone has been brought before the Inquisitor to find the truth.  The air is thick with the leather of his chair, the pouches, belts and other accouterments of his garb, and the instruments at his disposal.  The fireplace and an assortment of candles provide illumination as his eyes settle on the one who has been led in.  There are questions to be asked, and he will have answers... The heavy black leather is the first thing that stands out, oily and resinous, the smell of smoldering candle wax and a bit of smoke soon joining in.  And as it dries down, it grows ever smoother, the warmth of the amber coming to the fore.  I find the EDP to be more airy, more open, with perhaps a touch more smoke.  The extrait a bit more dense and heavy, both lasted a long time.  This is excellent, great job, Angela.  =)

This would smell amazing on a man, pity my husband's not a fan of wearing scent, I would slather him with this in an instant!

I get a strong cola note upfront too, which is the only thing about this perfume that I don't like and I don't get much, if any, leather. If the cola smelled of leather instead Inquisitor would be perfect.

Everything else is beautiful, the beeswax and smoke make this the deepest, darkest but still warm and sweet amber I've come across, it almost resonates in my nose and makes me imagine brimstone (but a perfumed version of course tongue . I wonder if I can persuade my man to dab just a tiny bit on, it's so good I'm definitely going to give it a try!

*UPDATE* the cola note has died down and the leather has come out, this one definitely does well with longer ageing, it's super dark I love it!

*UPDATE2* Now it's aged even longer (3yrs?) this has overtaken Incensum as my fav SS resin scent (and I basically only buy these as I think Angela is a genius with resins, my fav note). It's such a warm and even comforting scent as it ages, it's no longer menacing (or a masculine scent) but like a big cuddly warm brown bear who wants to give you a hug. I get the same golden sunny beeswax note in Manor Fire with whiffs of the spice (what some have called "Christmas spice") and the sweetness of the rosewood. It lasts and lasts and lasts, wafting stronger off my skin the warmer my skin gets. Love this so much will have to be my next FB!
