SNOWSHOE PASS
White Amber, White Musk, Vanilla Accord, Peppermint Cream, Cold Winds

Available in Perfume, Ganache, Whipped Soap and Burnishing Glace.

Description: A chilly white blend of an ethereal snow blanket and cold winter winds, Snowshoe Pass combines pale white amber, delicate and smooth white musk, a sweet touch of vanilla and a faint whisper of creamy cold peppermint. The result is a unique take on a winter scent inspired by heavy snows and desolate rural regions. On cold sniff and initial application a creamy peppermint note is detectable as a top note, though it is a careful addition that takes a backseat to the other notes as it wears on the skin, ultimately receding entirely. There is just enough peppermint to enhance the coolness of this plushly white blend. The other notes swirl together to evoke not only a snow covered landscape that may only be traversed with snowshoes and a pioneer spirit, but the calm and intense silence after a snow deep in the wild.

Ahhh, I love this scent! There is just a whisper of mint at the beginning that quickly descends into a luxurious base of powdery vanilla, musk and amber. It's more complex than my description but that's the best that I can do.

This is one of the most beautiful scents I have smelled! So soft and powdery, but complex because of the amber and musk.I just keep getting wifts of it and LOVe IT. wONDERFULLY FEMININE and sexy in a subtle way. Very Happy

I was attracted to Snowshoe pass for the white amber, and while I am not usually a mint fan, I was looking for something a bit cool, just for a change. This is amazing. It reminds me very much of the white amber note from Ava Luxe's True Bluish Light, but is less rich. Snowshoe is sweet without being dense. I don't know if I would guess "mint" if smelling this blind. It has a slight lift of freshness...a sparkly, soft cloud to snuggle on. I really love it, and I'm a girl who usually goes for dark, heavy scents. This is like "white" incense-just what I was looking for!

This is a really lovely scent that's mostly vanilla on me. I'm not a big fan of mint fragrances, but the mint here is sugary & subtle, just a hint of mint candy underneath the creamy vanilla. The amber adds a nice, warm, slightly powdery depth to the vanilla, and I think the white musk adds a creamy, sophisticated edge to everything. Snowshoe Pass is my favorite of the winter scents this year <3

In vial: That classic snow scent...icy mint with a slight vanilla sweetness above it.

On skin, wet: Same snow scent, now with amber musk. Interesting.

On skin, drying: It's pretty. I like how the musk is almost icy and mixes in well with the peppermint creme and other notes. The amber gives it a powdery feel. There's something quiet animal about the musk too, I want to say it reminds me of skunk...but how to I say that and still say I like it? It's very slight skunk. I live in an area by a canyon and it's sort of the scent of skunk right before it becomes gross and overpowering, when it is more of a musk. Maybe someone will understand what I am saying here, the animal musk before the odor is too much. I mean it in a positive way...I...um...can't explain it more than that! Just the musk, not the stinking part. Anyone help me here?

confused

Overall: It's a nice snowy blend and it has got a lot more going on that your typical run of the mill vanilla mint passing for snow blend. The musk gets very strong on me from time to time, very animalistic. I am not sure if I like that or not. But I will keep my sample and use it throughout the holiday season. It never gets foody or too vanilla like or creme like...due to the amber and musk. It's an icy snow covered woods, complete with musky animals on the forest floor. It invokes the idea of "frontier spirit" more than any other winter blend I've tried so far! This would be the blend I would buy a bottle of if I was to buy any of the new 2011 winter blends. I put it on a second time and the musk is a little calmer...it's unique for a snow type blend.

I was a bit skeptical to this perfume as I usually don't like vanilla... At first sniff, I only smelled vanilla and thought "Ok this one's not for me". But after, I let it dry on my skin and smelled it again and again... And I think it's the most incredible perfume I've ever smelled: icy and sharp but also soft and complex... It seems to be morphing all along ! Truly amazing and beautiful !

I don't get that scent from Snowshoe Pass, but I do know what you mean about good skunk, or at least, stinky yet appealing skunk.

Snowshoe Pass is very interesting and beautiful. Here's what I "got" the instant the sample bottle's wand touched my skin:

My grandmother. And not in the "granny" way because this woman was the very definition of elegance. She's fetching me at school (rescuing me from the nuns!) in her little white Zephyr car, and she's wearing the suit I love so much--black boucle with tiger-like stripes on its shawl collar. I used to stare at that collar and imagine a sleepy tiger draped around her neck and chest. I jump into the Zephyr, throw my book bag onto the back seat and we're off for an afternoon snack at the famous El Carmelo!

This scent is so complex, but what really gets me is its elegance. Love it, baby!

First, I have to say that this is a wonderful memory - so well expressed!

Secondly, Snowshoe Pass turns into relatively strong musk on me to start. I can only smell the vanilla in the drydown. It reminds me a lot of Pharaoh, but I like Pharaoh better. (If you like Snoeshoe Pass and you haven't tried Pharaoh, I recommend it!)

Thank you for your comment! My grandmother was some kind of wonderful. Fragrance impacts me this way, that is, it generates memories or creates, somehow, a mental picture, a vision, if you will. Very weird. It's always been this way for me, and it's the reason why scent is so important to me.

Thanks, also, for the Pharaoh suggestion. You know, I tried Pharaoh, but it was a long time ago and I can't recall the scent, so I'll have to try it again!

It's actually very, very normal--scent is one of the quickest conduits to intense memory for humans. That's not to say it's not awesome, of course!

I didn't know this! Now it makes perfect sense! I'm going to have to read Diane Ackerman's book again--A Natural History of the Senses--and see if she mentions anything about this connection between scent and memory. Thanks for this info!

As I mentioned in my contest entry, I knew this would be lovely based on the notes and description. In the vial, it is wonderful and reminds me a little of BPAL's Celeste.

On my skin, though, I amped something that my nose associated with white florals (even though this isn't in the notes, it's just how my nose interpreted it.) Some other folks have mentioned the white musk being a little strong, so maybe this is what I'm noticing. I tried it again last night and either I had a temporary skin chemistry issue or the vial needed a chance to breathe, but it was gorgeous.

It takes me forever to make up my mind before I buy a bigger size because from one test to the next I can totally change my mind!

Cross-posted from the green:

Upon application, it smells like a creamy mint, vanilla, and musk blend. Strangely, I don't smell the amber in it, but I think that's just my nose. It's soft and well-blended, but not a scent I would repurchase. This is a definite must for any mint lovers out there, though - it's sweet, but not cloying, which I really appreciate.

I got a vial of this as part of my sample pack of the Winter 2011 Collection.

On cold sniff: sweet, creamy white amber & musk; the mint comes out on application to the skin and helps tie the sweet, creamy vanilla notes with the amber & musk notes. Very well-balanced between bracing and comforting-sweet and not overpowering on the foodiness. Must have bottle!

I have this in the perfume & the glace. I find it to be very well blended. No single note stands out to my nose. On me, it lasts very well. In the evening, I can still smell it on my wrists. The glace is moisturizing & makes my skin feel like silk. It is not overly oily & it absorbs quickly. I also like it as a finishing touch on my hair.
The mint hovers just in the background. I do not find it to be overbearing. While this was issued as a Winter fragrance, I will wear this year round.
This is my absolute favorite SS scent to date! <3

This scent seems to be the most popular of the Winter collection, it's Jay's favorite out of all of the new releases and he uses it almost every day! For me, it's a nice scent... but the musk is the main note on my skin and it doesn't seem to work very well for me. I must say, the vanilla and mint in this blend are wonderful! I like using the whipped soap because it's a wash off product.

It's a lovely, well-balanced scent, comforting, warm and a touch of chill with the peppermint, just a smidge. I wouldn't say no to more peppermint in this!

This is the only Solstice Scents perfume I have tried that I actively disliked. I guess I didn't expect quite as much musk, and I am not a musk lover. Someone compared this to Ava Luxe's True Bluish Light, and that makes sense to me, esp. because that was another perfume I did not like at all.

I like the mint and vanilla in this, but it quickly becomes pretty heavy musk on me, and it's the kind of musk I particularly dislike. I'm not sure what type of musk it is, but often things that have something called "skin musk" have this scent to them, or white musk, and this is what this reminds me of.

It does remind a little of Pharaoh too, which I also didn't like, but I find this more musk heavy--thus more offensive to me--than Pharaoh.

Not for me, I'm afraid.

This is probably my all-time favorite SS perfume to date. It is so cozy and comforting. It is also the first perfume that I have ever tried with a true peppermint note that lasts all day long. How did she do that? Peppermint has a tendency to eventually lose its awesome sharpness and just fizzle down to an herbal scent, but the musk and vanilla must buoy it up or something because it hangs around until the end. I love it so much and get compliments on it everytime I wear it. I can't wait for next winter to come around so that I can stock up. Wink

This is probably one of my top 5 favorites now, after sampling a whole wack of them. The smell definitely has a musk but I adore that, it's one of my favorite smells. After a bit of time the peppermint comes out which gives the perfume a cool, crisp breeze that comes and goes. I like the variations in strength the peppermint goes through. It makes me feel like it's sort of following and swooping around me like wind. I really have no complaints about this one, I would not change a single thing about it. It's a truly warm, yet cool ( I don't know how that's possible but somehow it is! haha), woodsy, yet vanilla-ish smell. I'm sorry I'm terrible at describing things, I feel like if you liked spellbound woods you would also adore snowshoe pass, it's more wintery counter part.

This is a very pretty, soft scent. When I first put it on I could smell a faint mint, vanilla, and soft musk. The musky smell in this reminded me a lot of pharaoh (which I love). This part of the fragrance didn't last long however, as once it dried I could only smell vanilla. It is a very pretty vanilla though, the same beautiful vanilla that's in Manor (my favorite SS perfume ever). I wish the first part of this fragrance lasted longer on me, I really liked the minty vanilla musk smell. I still like it, I just don't think I'll be rushing to get a full bottle.

A beautiful amber and musk are the first notes that struck my nose, followed by the peppermint and vanilla. This is a less complex creation than many others in the Solstice Scents range, though the use of amber, musk and peppermint is unusual. Because the peppermint is the only "cool" note in the fragrance, I find Snowshoe Pass to be a predominantly warm scent which moves even further in that direction as the peppermint fades. The dry down comes too quickly for my liking, but I am sure there will be many who adore that phase. I agree completely with other reviewers who find this a very comforting scent. and it would be very suitable to wear to bed.

This weekend I went hiking somewhere that puts me in mind of this scent. The snow was about mid calf on me and it was beautiful. I don't own snowshoes but fortunately another hiker did and the ground was tamped down enough that I could make my way. I was alone with my husband for a romantic early evening date. The snow glowed with the sunset and the pine trees swayed a little in the wind. To me snowshoe pass is this- a warm skin glow of hikers in love. This scent is not so much cool as fresh, and it evokes images of two lovers hiking through a snowy Forest. Love.
