MINISTER
Sandalwood, Amber, Cassia, Elemi, Sweet Smoke & Somalian Frankincense

NOT TO BE USED BY WOMEN WHO ARE PREGNANT OR NURSING OR BY THOSE WITH VERY SENSITIVE SKIN (DUE TO LIGHT USE OF SPICE OILS). SPICE OILS MAY CAUSE SENSITIVITY IN SOME INDIVIDUALS.  TEST A SMALL AREA OF YOUR SKIN BEFORE APPLYING ALL OVER IF YOU ARE VERY SENSITIVE TO SPICE OILS.  THE SPICES USED IN THIS BLEND ARE VERY HEAVILY DILUTED.

Offered in Perfume, Ganache and Glace as part of the Foxcroft Collection

Mooseridge Ministry is located in a quiet area near Maine Moon Drive-In and overlooks the North River.   Minister is a reverent fragrant blend of precious essential oils, fragrance oils and absolutes.  A light sweet incensey base of sandalwood blends with amber, resinous Somalian Frankincense EO, Elemi EO and a tendril of smoke.  Minister is enhanced by just a few drops of cassia and cinnamon fragrance, which adds a mysterious and exotic spice note.   The resinous frankincense and elemi are more apparent on cold sniff and initial application.  These oils quickly give way to the lighter blend of sandalwood fragrance and essential oil, amber and a little smoke.  The spice is very gently nuanced through the composition.  It is not a dominant spice blend but rather a sweet, resinous, slightly smoky blend.   Minister also contains benzoin, labdanum, copaiba and more.  Unisex and very wearable.   Fans of Conjure may enjoy Minister as well.

I must say, I have no clue as to how I feel about this one. The only way I could describe it would be if Manor and Basilica had a baby, this is what it would smell like. It has that old, smoky smell from Manor and that sharp wood scent from Basilica. I really want to like this one, but the mix just smells like black licorice to me. Hmm, I will try mixing it with something a tad more sweet and see if that helps. I think my nose is just confused at this point.

On me, Minister starts out as a strong sandalwood/frankincense/resin, which I like very much. After about 30 minutes it gradually morphs into a beautiful sweet woody resinous scent. It's a gorgeous fragrance - the only problem I have with it is that I wish it lasted longer.

SS has some wonderful resin scents. Of course I had to compare this to Basilica, Inquisitor, and Scrying Smoke. Minister falls somewhere on the spectrum between Basilica and Inquisitor. It's not as sweet and chaste smelling as Basilica, but doesn't have the dark fiery brimstone vibe of Inquisitor.

I have owned this fragrance for several months and am only now coming around to reviewing it, which is a pity because it is a very nice work and I should have tackled it in cooler weather. It has a little something from a number of fragrance genres, but certainly holds its own as an individual fragrance. It opens with a lovely resinous Frankincense with enough smoke to suggest the incense of old churches. Elemi is cleverly used to provide a hint of lemon pepper to both sharpen and warm the sharpness. The use of cinnamon and amber provides a warmth which transmutes into an Australian Sandal Wood (I think) blend with cinnamon and hints of burning frankincense in it's quite long dry down. I am struggling to smell the cassia in the opening, but I am sure it comes through later on as it is quite distinctive to the cinnamon. Having said that, the cinnamon does dominate. There is an element of abstraction that is neither feminine nor masculine at the core of this fragrance - the way expensive incense, but the use of the spices and woods does surround this core with a very attractive and quite sensuous shell. Hence may comment about straddling genres. I also agree with other reviewers that it has definite kinship with Basilica, Inquisitor and Scrying Smoke.

When wet the elemi in this scent is sharp and biting, but it quickly calms down once it dries and begins to mix and mingle with the other scents. The sandalwood is beautiful in this scent. It has just a touch of smoke. The frankincense is sweet and adds to the resinous feel with the amber. And the cassia gives it a touch of spice. It is a very nice church-y incense, but not the traditional frank and myrrh.

Fresh upon application, this smells exactly like Basilica with the pungent peppery resin note, but as i dries it gets a tad sweeter and not as dry as Basilica.

I love this when it's first applied. The frankincense and sweet smoke come on strong in this golden, sensual way. Heavenly resins. The elemi adds a cool, misty, pine-like aroma. It's a lovely, invigorating scent. The drydown comes quick, though, and Minister quickly morphs into a powdery sandalwood and powdery amber (which is way too much powder for me) with a dry, dusty, woody undertone. Goes really flat and powdery on me really quickly.

Minister is such a gorgeous, unique blend; I feel like it's one of the underrated hits of the SS catalog.

For me it's all about clove. It's not listed in the notes, so I'm not sure if it's part of the "and more" in the description, or if the cassia/cinnamon mix just reads that way to me. Where fresh clove can be potent and overbearing, this is smoky sweet with a base of delicate spice teasing out some complexity.

The copaiba is very noticeable in this blend to me. If you've never smelled copaiba alone, you're missing out! It's reminiscent of bark drenched in honey. Minister's base comes across as languid because of this, and it smells warm yet wet - hard to describe. Like a clean, cuddly animal den that's sheltered from a forest rain. The combination of spiced warmth, the richness of amber and a coolness from the woods is fantastic.

Across the top of all this is the elemi, providing an uplifting, citrusy sheen that brightens a heavy base. The longer it wears, the more the amber develops a powdery, vanillic edge that's very dreamy.

Angela did a great job of evoking the inspiration for this blend. Minister makes me feel like I'm cozied up near a crackling fire in a hut in the woods, enjoying shelter from a storm. It's mysterious but welcoming and very wearable.

This is a nice perfume that I think I would use as a meditative blend, not for wearing outside. Sort-of an inner peace/prayer sort of thing. Mainly a smoky, incensy-scent, hmm, like Mass incense?
