My friend Dawn is one of 4 women who started Wudskins. Wudskins is a case for your iPad made out of wood, so you actually protect your iPad in something durable. I've seen them in person and they are ridiculously awesome. There is a link to the website below but the case I fell in love with is not shown. I saw a prototype they are working on and it looks exactly like a hardcover wooden book with a leather looking "spine". It was made of darker bamboo (FSC certified Bamboo/Plywood combo from Plyboo) with a black leather spine. You open up the cover and your iPad is inside. It was ridiculously awesome. I got a crappy pic on my cell phone of it so you guys can see that design, pictured below.
All Wudskins cases are handcrafted by Dawn's team so they are 100% American Made. They are hand rubbed with a protective oil finish. As the company grows, they are committed to staying American made and stand against overseas manufacturing. For an additional fee, Wudskins has another team member that can engrave anything you want in the back portion of your case, like the Gator head logo for the University of Florida and Bevis Chiropractic logo pictured here: Wudskins Facebook Photos
Dawn is super awesome and as I've said, I've seen these in person and they are so ridiculously cool. With the holidays coming up, you guys might think these to be a very unique and functional present for techie people who are dear to you. I wanted to share because I think this is a killer invention, they're high quality, unique and just getting off the ground and I love to support American made Indie businesses.
Here is the rad one that looks like a book. Remember, it is a prototype so the edges haven't been beveled and everything yet and the spine isn't perfect but you can get the idea:
