BLACK MALLOW
Marshmallow Infused With Star Anise Essence & Vanilla

Offered as a Perfume Oil

Our beloved marshmallow infused with star anise essence and vanilla. Black licorice has a very distinct, dark, slightly spicy and very unique taste. The aroma of anise essential oil mirrors the taste experience of sinking your teeth into black licorice candies! For fan's of our Warlock soap, this is not to be missed! On cold sniff, the anise is most detectable. On initial application, the anise is the strongest note but the mallow and vanilla adds a creamy sweetness that keeps the anise from being too sharp. As the perfume evolves on the skin, the anise melts further and further into the vanilla mallow so there is a true infusion of all components. Eventually the anise will wear almost completely away but its presence doesn't entirely recede. It lends itself for the life of the blend to morph the vanilla and mallow so that they aren't flat but rather a whole new and uniquely wonderful fragrance. It wears closer to the skin which means your nose will be glued to your wrist because it is so delicious. Black Mallow does contain volatile anise essential oil which does not have the staying power of some of our synthetic components, however, this scent is so enjoyable that we don't think you'll mind touching up to refresh! (It lasts a few hours on me, especially when I rub some on the tops of my arms instead of just my wrists). This scent is ultimately very smooth, creamy, rich and wicked all in one stroke.

This is exactly how I thought it would be: the licorice gives it a bit of a sharp bite and the marshmallow provides a smooth, sweet background. The anise does fade after a few hours, but it's great while it lasts. Wicked is a very good description for this.

My skin amps the anise/licorice note. I applied some last night and still smell it this morning!! This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I will be layering this next time with some Cenobite Glace to see if I can get a smoother experience.

Oh my good, goodness!!

I *knew* I was going to love this scent, and I do. Wow, this one is a real winner for me. Being a huge lover of SS Warlock Soap (I'm always tempted to take a bit out of that bar!) and black licorice, I was really anticipating trying this scent out. (damned vacation made me have to wait a few extra days! LOL).

I was just a bit hesitant about the mallow & vanilla.. hoping that it wouldn't make the blend too sweet for me. I really love the sharpness of anise and once again, Angela blended this scent perfectly.

It starts out with that lovely sharp licorice... just like the description says, but it has a smoothness to it from the vanilla and mallow. I was prepared for the anise to disappear fast and to be left with a sweet, creamy vanilla.. but that never happened on my skin! The anise does take a back seat about an hour after application, but never goes away. The scent was completely detectable on my skin at the end of the work day!

A perfect combination which isn't too foody for a non-foodie lover! I only wish it was available in other products.

cheers

I usually love black licorice type scents (hate the taste, but love the smell), and I really enjoy the anise note used in this. It has a sort of spicy/herby edge to it that reminds me of geranium. Like black licorice with a kick <3. And then the whole thing is smoothed and sweetened by vanilla-y marshmallow. The anise is pretty strong on me, but it does back off a little after an hour or so, and the scent becomes sweeter.

Black Mallow is great on its own, but I also like this layered with a dab of Cenobite <3.

This would not be a scent I might normally like, but it is great. I had to stop myself from licking my arm off-it smells so good! I LOVE black licorice and can't eat it due to food sensitivities, so this was a treat to smell. It literally made my mouth water at first, then mellowed out and is just delicious on the skin. A winner for sure! Very Happy

WOW this is such a delicious, unique scent. When I first put it on, I smelled warm, fresh-out-of-the-oven vanilla cupcakes. Y'know, like when you're baking cupcakes, and you first take them out of the oven, and you inhale the scent of them - yeah, that's what Black Mallow smelled like upon application. Then, the licorice comes out to really make this a unique scent. I dislike the taste of black licorice, but I do like the smell of it; especially in this blend.

ETA: I love this blend so much, I ordered the full-size perfume. I haven't received any compliments on it, but I think I smell amazing, and that's all that counts! Laughing

As a licorice lover, I can attest to the accuracy of this scent. The marshmallow really enhances the sharpness of the licorice and mellows it out without overpowering it. A very delicate balance is achieved. If you love the smell of black licorice, you won't be disappointed!

PostSubject: Black Mallow   BLACK MALLOW (DISCONTINUED) EmptySun Aug 25, 2013 6:22 pm

It's late August 2013, and I cannot believe I am just now falling in love with Black Mallow. As it was announced to be released, I read the description, was mesmerized, and decided to order it. When the package arrived, as with all of Solstice Scents creations, the anticipation was high! The first inhalation of Black Mallow was beautiful, then I immediately applied it to the wrist. My inhale became longer to take in more of it's scent! Black Mallow is drop dead monkey gorgeous. I do love licorice, vanilla, and marshmallow as foods, yet even though I do not gravitate toward food fragrances as much as others, Black Mallow, somehow, may be a food scent, still achieves a magical and irresistible treat that's much more.

This is the perfect black licorice scent, it smells exactly like the candy. While I'm not a fan of the taste of licorice, I do love the smell of anise. The mallow blend smooths out the dark anise into the most delicious creamy scent. The mallow lasts much longer on the skin than the anise, as Angela described, but I don't mind reapplying. I'm definitely considering purchasing a full bottle.

I've been experimenting with layering Black Mallow and other scents based on suggestions I read in these forums. So far I've tried it with Blackburn Farmstead, which resulted in a rich berry, musky, anise blend. It made me want to try making a blackberry/anise pie or something!

I Love licorice, and I mean LOVE it! My love for it can cause me to be a licorice snob. Whenever I see licorice scented beauty products I am usually quick to purchase them. Most of the time unsatisfied, but always hoping for the perfect blend for me.

Thanks to SS, perfect blend...found!!!

Black Mallow smells just like a black jelly bean jumped into a bowl of marshmallow fluff! I mean does it get any better than that?
As much as I love black jelly beans, I would want it to have a bit of sweetness added to it to wear it. The marshmallow added to it is perfection. I adore this fragrance. I also enjoy layering this with other oils, especially in the fall.

Nice throw, not overpowering, and lasts for a good amount of time♥

PostSubject: Re: BLACK MALLOW (DISCONTINUED)   BLACK MALLOW (DISCONTINUED) EmptyMon Dec 30, 2013 8:19 am

Star Anise is a well known spice used in many Asian dishes (my favourites being from southern Indonesia), and Black Mallow is very simply composed of Star Anise essence and according to Angela some Vanilla and mallow. What the fragrance goes to show is just how complex and beautiful the raw ingredient actually is as the different nuances play out against each other over a period of time. The opening notes come across as quite strong and interesting with clove and camphor hints within the anise just as if you are smelling the raw spice. As the initial anise note is dominant, I understand when people associate it with licorice, however StarAnise is also known for the other fragrance notes it contains, particularly it's warmth which is something that straight anise does not have to the same degree. Very soon it settles down and the vanilla moves slowly to the fore as a wonderful compliment to the star anise itself. The vanilla is quite a woody one by the smell of it and it compliments the anise very well. At about the twenty minute mark, the opening blast has completely subsided leaving a wonderful warm glow of fragrance on the skin that is of course so familiar, but difficult to place because of the richness of the vanilla. There is a quote attributed to Katherine Hepburn about Fred Astair and Ginger Rogers "He gave her class and she gave him sex appeal". That is exactly how these two ingredients interact; with the sum being greater than the parts. Despite the obvious food association of these two spices, there is nothing specifically food like about Black Mallow at this stage, instead there is the refined depth, richness and warmth of this unexpected combination. I can imagine this being worn easily by men and women in cooler weather. A class act indeed.

I ordered this as a sample a while ago. It smells very different in the bottle than it does on my skin! On the bottle, the mallow note comes through clearly, and it smelled just right. On my skin, it is predominantly a black licorice smell with a hint of creamy mallow. It wasn't quite was I was looking for...I was hoping it would smell more like mallow on me, but my skin had other plans. It's funny how body chemistry affects the scent of a perfume, isn't it?

This is a great blend, very moody for me, meaning I have to be in the mood for it, but I love it.
